Reading Time: < 1 minute

Retired Sgt. 1st Class Henry Escobedo has overcome tremendous challenges to reach the pinnacle of adaptive sports at the upcoming Warrior Games. Escobedo, who is blind, shared his inspiring journey from the depths of despair to the heights of achievement.

After suffering concussions during his deployments, Escobedo began experiencing vision problems that eventually led to a diagnosis of Leber’s Optic Neuropathy, a rare genetic disease triggered by his injuries. This devastating news not only ended his military career but also left him feeling lost and hopeless.

However, with the unwavering support of his family, especially his wife Myra, Escobedo found solace in adaptive sports. Through therapy and determination, he discovered a new lease on life and a renewed sense of purpose. His participation in beep ball and other adaptive sports paved the way for his ultimate goal of competing in the Warrior Games.

Now, as a member of Team Army, Escobedo is gearing up to showcase his skills in track, cycling, rowing, and field events at the prestigious event. His resilience and positive attitude serve as a beacon of hope for others facing similar challenges.

Escobedo’s message of perseverance and utilizing resources to overcome obstacles resonates deeply with anyone going through a health crisis. His story is a testament to the power of determination and the transformative impact of adaptive sports in rebuilding lives.

As Escobedo prepares to represent Team Army at the Warrior Games, he embodies the spirit of resilience and triumph in the face of adversity. His journey from darkness to light serves as a reminder that with courage and support, anything is possible.
