DVIDS – News – Jacksonville District Park Rangers Emphasize Conservation and Education as Top Priorities

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The dedicated natural resource park rangers of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District are on a mission to protect and preserve the precious ecosystem of Lake Okeechobee and its waterways. Led by passionate individuals like Megan Parsons, Robert Wiggins, Grant Harrison, and Kavin Carter, these park rangers go above and beyond to engage with the public, educate visitors on environmental stewardship, and ensure the safety of all who enjoy the recreational facilities.

One of their latest initiatives involves reforesting a large open field with native vegetation as part of the Engineering with Nature program. This project not only enhances the natural habitat but also reduces the need for mowing, minimizes fossil fuel use, and saves taxpayer dollars.

The park rangers take pride in their work, whether it’s managing conservation projects, conducting outreach programs, or patrolling the waters of Lake Okeechobee. They are always ready to educate visitors on water safety, conservation efforts, and the importance of preserving our natural resources.

With a deep love for the outdoors and a commitment to conservation, these park rangers are true stewards of the environment. Their dedication serves as an inspiration to all, reminding us to cherish and protect our natural world for generations to come.
