Soap Lake Boys Tennis Team Wins Central Washington B League Tournament

In just their fourth season back on the courts, the Soap Lake boys tennis team emerged victorious in last week’s Central Washington B league tournament. The team’s success was highlighted by Xavier Gonzales-Robinson reaching the singles finals and Francisco Ortega and Logan Northup making it to the doubles finals.

Head coach Lee Leavell expressed his pride in the team’s journey, stating, “To go from teaching kids the absolute basics of tennis to now having three kids take home a league championship, it’s pretty special.”

Soap Lake secured the league title with 18 points, narrowly edging out Entiat and Manson, who tied for second with 17 points. The tournament combined 1B and 2B tennis teams from District 6, with the top four teams from each bracket advancing to the district tournament.

The team’s preparation and dedication paid off, with Leavell attributing their success to the players’ commitment to practicing both on and off the court. All three finalists from Soap Lake are sophomores, setting high expectations for the future.

Assistant coach Clarissa Larsen was also recognized for her contributions to the team’s success in her first season with the Eagles.

Looking ahead, the team is focused on the district tournament and ultimately making it to the 1A/2B/B State Tournament in Yakima. Leavell emphasized the importance of staying motivated and striving for even greater achievements.

With their recent triumph at the league tournament, the Soap Lake boys tennis team is determined to continue their winning streak and reach their goal of competing at the state level.
