United High School’s track and field team had an impressive showing at the Nowayne Division III regional meet, with several athletes securing their spots at the state meet in Dayton later this month.
The boys 400-meter relay team, consisting of Kollyn Wells, Cayden Pitts, Mason Laibe, and Danny Milburn, took home the regional title with a winning time of 43.32 seconds. On the girls’ side, the United team of Katie Dees, Brinsley Hiscox, Aubrey Benner, and Mary Boston also qualified for the state meet by finishing fourth in 51.08 seconds.
Heartland Christian’s Rebecca Geiss, United’s Brinsley Hiscox, and Southern’s Kiah Sloan also punched their tickets to the state meet. Geiss, a sophomore, ran a personal best of 10:43.40 in the girls 3200 run, finishing second behind Maplewood senior Caleigh Richards. Hiscox qualified in the girls 100 hurdles with a personal best time of 15.35 seconds, while Sloan secured her spot with a third-place finish in the girls long jump.
The Lowellville boys and Smithville girls claimed the regional team titles, but it was the individual performances of these young athletes that stole the show. With their impressive performances at regionals, these athletes are poised to make a splash at the state meet and represent their schools with pride.
