In a thrilling match-up between Chautauqua Lake and Clymer/Sherman, the Chautauqua Lake softball team emerged victorious with a 7-2 win in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West league play. Cayzlee Johnson shined in the circle, pitching a stellar game and allowing the offense to come alive.

The game started off slow, with both teams going down 1-2-3 in the first inning. However, it was Lucy Gates who kickstarted the Chautauqua Lake offense with a powerful home run in the second inning. Gates continued her hot streak with an RBI triple in her next at-bat. Johnson also contributed to the offensive onslaught with a home run of her own.

While the big bats were crucial for Chautauqua Lake, small ball tactics in the third and fourth innings helped build their lead. Karagan Fairbank and Eden Ludwig executed sacrifice plays to bring in runs, while seventh-grader Alice Scarpine impressed with a 3 for 3 performance at the plate.

Clymer/Sherman fought hard to get on the board, with Lily Martin and Caylee Pinzok leading the charge. Despite their efforts, Chautauqua Lake’s solid defense and timely hitting secured the win.

Chautauqua Lake head coach Katherine Yudin praised her team’s performance, highlighting the girls’ ability to come together and execute their game plan. With this victory, Chautauqua Lake looks poised for a successful season ahead.
