Mound Westonka Defeats New Ulm in Nonconference Baseball Game
In a nonconference baseball game at Mueller Park, Mound Westonka’s left-hander Connor Esposito dominated on the mound, allowing just two hits and striking out eight batters through six innings. The White Hawks secured a 5-3 victory over New Ulm on Friday afternoon.
New Ulm’s Blaine Olson took the mound loss, pitching 4 1/3 innings and giving up three runs. Kolton Achman pitched the remaining three innings and allowed two runs.
Jameson Damato and Isiah Walker led the offense for Mound Westonka with two hits each. On the other side, Lucas Suess and Parker Neubauer managed the only hits for the Eagles, both coming in the third inning.
Despite a strong start with a 2-0 lead, New Ulm faltered in the fifth inning as the White Hawks scored three runs. Mound Westonka capitalized on errors and timely hits to secure the lead.
New Ulm coach Mike Anderson praised his pitchers for giving the team a chance to win but acknowledged the challenge of facing Esposito’s strong pitching. The Eagles will look to bounce back in their upcoming game against Waseca on Tuesday.
As the team continues to work on their performance and adjust to different pitching styles, Anderson emphasized the importance of learning and improving with each game. With a focus on reducing strikeouts and capitalizing on opportunities, New Ulm aims to turn the season around and secure more victories in the future.
