Hughesville Baseball Team Defends Title with Strong Start

The Hughesville High School baseball team is off to a strong start this season, despite losing several key players from last year’s championship team. With a motto of “Hughesville vs. Everybody,” the Spartans are determined to prove themselves once again.

Coach Chris Kish expressed confidence in the new lineup, stating, “There’s a lot of talented baseball players here who have not had the opportunity because they were stuck behind some people. They’re getting that opportunity now.”

The team’s early success is evident in their 3-0 record, including a league-opening win against Southern Columbia. Freshman pitcher Graden Dohl has been a standout player, with two strong starts under his belt.

The Spartans have shown a balanced offense, with six players averaging at least a hit per game and a collective batting average of .403. The defense has been solid, making no errors in their recent game against Southern.

Despite the challenges of a tough schedule and the loss of key players, the team remains motivated and determined to defend their title. With a mix of experienced players and newcomers, Hughesville is focused on continuous improvement.

Kish emphasized the team’s potential for growth, stating, “The biggest thing is it’s good to be 3-0 and 1-0 in the league and have a lot of things to work on and not be a finished product.”

As the season progresses, the Hughesville baseball team will continue to strive for excellence on the field, proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in their league and district. The Spartans’ determination and teamwork are key factors in their early success and will be crucial as they aim for another championship season.
