Cancer rates are on the rise in India, particularly among women, with approximately two lakh cases of breast cancer diagnosed every year. To combat this alarming trend, experts recommend several tips for women to reduce their cancer risk.
One key tip is to maintain a healthy weight through a balanced diet and regular physical activity. Being overweight or obese is associated with an increased risk of various types of cancer, including breast, ovarian, endometrial, and colorectal cancers. By focusing on achieving and maintaining a healthy weight, women can lower their risk of developing cancer.
In addition, eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins is crucial for cancer prevention. Limiting the intake of processed and red meats, sugary foods, and drinks is also important. Including foods high in antioxidants, such as berries, leafy greens, and cruciferous vegetables, can further reduce cancer risk.
Regular physical activity is another key factor in reducing cancer risk. Engaging in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity every week has been linked to a lower risk of several types of cancer, including breast and colon cancers.
Furthermore, avoiding tobacco products, getting regular screenings and checkups, and following recommended guidelines for breast and cervical cancer screenings are essential steps for women to take control of their health and reduce their risk of cancer. By implementing these tips, women can empower themselves to lead healthier lives and lower their chances of developing cancer.
