Edgemont and Scarsdale high schools in New York have made their mark on the national stage by ranking among the best high schools in the country, according to the newly released 2024 Best High Schools rankings by U.S. News & World Report.

Edgemont High School secured an impressive No. 14 spot in New York and No. 128 in the United States, while Scarsdale High School claimed the No. 64 position in the state and No. 533 nationally.

The rankings, which evaluated nearly 25,000 U.S. public high schools and ranked almost 18,000 of them, highlighted the academic excellence and achievements of these schools. Other Hudson Valley high schools that made it to the top 100 in the statewide rankings include Bronxville HS, Horace Greeley HS, Byram Hills HS, and Irvington HS.

The rankings were based on six key measures, including college readiness, state assessment proficiency, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rate. Schools that excelled in these areas, along with exceptional performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams, were recognized for their outstanding achievements.

According to LaMont Jones, Ed.D, managing editor of education at U.S. News, the rankings provide valuable insights for parents looking to understand a school’s academic performance and make informed decisions about their child’s education.

In addition to the national rankings, U.S. News also published rankings at the state level and provided a demographic breakdown of all ranked schools. The top 10 schools in the national rankings included BASIS Peoria (AZ), Signature School (IN), and Tesla STEM HS (WA), among others.

Overall, the rankings serve as a valuable resource for families navigating the educational landscape and planning for the future.
