Educator from Hillsborough County Selected as Finalist for 2025 Teacher of the Year

Dr. Clayton Nylund, a dedicated educator at Howard W. Blake High School in Hillsborough County, has been named as one of the five finalists for the prestigious 2025 Teacher of the Year award by the Florida Department of Education. Dr. Nylund, who teaches physics and engineering to high school students, has been recognized for his outstanding commitment to education and his innovative teaching methods.

Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. congratulated Dr. Nylund on his well-deserved nomination, highlighting his passion for science and his dedication to his students. Dr. Nylund’s impressive academic background, including a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership, has equipped him with the knowledge and skills to inspire and educate the next generation of leaders.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Nylund has also made significant contributions to the field of education through his research and advocacy work. His doctoral dissertation on mathematical achievement and funding in Haiti led him to co-found a non-profit organization focused on supporting schools in the country. He has also led medical and relief trips to Haiti following natural disasters, demonstrating his commitment to making a positive impact on the world.

The Teacher of the Year award recognizes educators who demonstrate outstanding teaching abilities, professional development, and community service. Dr. Nylund’s nomination is a testament to his dedication to his students and his passion for education. The winner of the 2025 Florida Teacher of the Year award will be announced at a gala in Orlando on July 25, 2024, where Dr. Nylund will be competing against four other finalists for this prestigious honor.
