Pepperdine Freshman Tennis Star Edward Winter Earns Berth to NCAA Singles Championships

MALIBU, Calif. — In a remarkable achievement, Pepperdine men’s tennis freshman Edward Winter has secured an at-large berth to the NCAA Singles Championships, as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday.

The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship is scheduled to take place from May 20-25 in Stillwater, Okla., following the NCAA team championships on May 19. Winter, who has had an outstanding debut season, is set to compete against the nation’s top collegiate tennis players in this prestigious event.

Under the guidance of head coach Adam Schaechterle, Winter becomes the second player from Pepperdine to make the NCAA Singles Championship field, following in the footsteps of Daniel De Jonge. Winter, named the 2024 West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, has proven himself as a formidable competitor with a 17-14 overall record, including victories over top-ranked opponents.

Having showcased his talent and resilience throughout the season, Winter has demonstrated his ability to compete at the highest level of collegiate tennis. His impressive performances have earned him a spot in the top 50 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s singles rankings.
