Egyptian Startups Shine at Underdog Tech Award 2024, Celebrating Global Innovation

Egyptian startups have made their mark on the global tech stage, with two innovative companies from the country winning prestigious honors at the Underdog Tech Award 2024. Despite facing challenges such as limited resources and lack of funding, these visionaries have shown resilience and creativity in reshaping industries and communities.

One of the winners, Mohamed Tarek Mohamed Abdelzaher from Egypt, secured the 2nd place prize of $20,000 for his startup P-vita. P-vita is being recognized for its groundbreaking approach to sustainability, specifically in recycling palm waste to reduce carbon footprints. Their commitment to environmental stewardship sets a commendable standard for the industry.

Another Egyptian startup, O7 Therapy by Ashraf Bacheet, received special recognition and a $5,000 prize for their impactful initiatives addressing mental health challenges in Egypt. Their efforts in providing solace and guidance to individuals have not gone unnoticed.

The Underdog Tech Award is a global initiative that celebrates tech entrepreneurs from around the world who are overcoming obstacles to make a difference. Elmira Safarova from Chile took home the 1st place prize of $30,000 for her startup Rarus Health, which focuses on assisting families dealing with rare genetic diseases.

Saúl Paniagua-Lapenta from Bolivia clinched the 3rd place prize of $10,000 for his startup VAKA, which connects farmers with micro-investors to promote economic empowerment and agricultural sustainability.

Ekaterina Smirnova, Project Head of the Underdog Tech Award, emphasized the importance of recognizing and supporting startups operating outside major tech hubs. The award not only provides financial support but also industry expertise and PR assistance to empower underrepresented voices in the tech landscape.
