Elkins High School Boys Track Team Secures First Win of the Season
TENNERTON — The Elkins boys track team secured their first win of the season on Tuesday night with a stellar performance led by Johnathan Dean. Dean played a crucial role in the team’s victory, contributing 14 points through an individual win in the 800-meter run and by being part of the second-place finishes in the 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams.
The balanced scoring attack from the Tiger boys team helped them accumulate 119 points, narrowly edging out Buckhannon-Upshur by three points. Other teams in the competition included Nicholas County, South Harrison, Philip Barbour, North Marion, and Braxton County.
Coach Shane Richardson expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “We ran some kids in different events today that they don’t normally run and I was impressed with the outcomes. We are starting to get everything dialed in and we are looking for strong showings at Big 10 and regionals.”
On the girls’ side, North Marion claimed the team crown with 117 points, just edging out Buckhannon-Upshur. Elkins High School girls also put up a strong showing, with notable second-place finishes in events like the 800 meters, 1600 meters, and discus throw.
Both the boys and girls teams are gearing up for the Mountaineer Showcase on Saturday, hosted by Morgantown High School at Mylan Park. The teams are focused on making progress and fine-tuning their performances as they head into the final stretch of the season.
