EHS track teams participate in Mountaineer Showcase event

The Elkins High School track and field teams showcased their talent at the Mountaineer Showcase at Mylan Park over the weekend, with both the boys and girls teams putting in strong performances.

The boys team secured a fourth-place finish with a score of 83.5 points, with standout performances from various athletes. The 4×100 relay team of JJ Cepeda, Nick Bowers, Caleb Ray, and Demarcus Franklin took first place with a time of 46.73. Ben Tenney dominated the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:46.59, while the 4×110 shuttle hurdles relay team of Andres Masten, Jayden Harding, Logan Rowan, and Cepeda also clinched first place with a time of 1:11.74.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Tigers finished seventh with 28 points, facing tough competition from teams like Morgantown and University. The 4×400 relay team secured second place with a time of 4:26.77, showcasing the team’s depth and talent.

Coach Shane Richardson expressed satisfaction with the team’s performances, noting that they are gearing up for the upcoming Big 10 Conference Championships, regional championship, and state championship. The team is focused and determined to make their mark in these crucial upcoming meets.

Elkins High School will continue their track and field season with the Big 10 Conference Championship at Robert C. Byrd High School, where they will look to build on their recent successes and continue their pursuit of excellence on the track.
