Elina Svitolina, the world No 18 tennis player from Ukraine, has set up a foundation to support young people affected by the ongoing war in her home country. Despite the challenges of competing amidst the conflict, Svitolina remains dedicated to making a positive impact.

In a recent interview with the Sky Sports Tennis Podcast, Svitolina shared her struggles with the situation in Ukraine, revealing that the news from her homeland often brings her to tears. With her family still in Ukraine, including her grandmother in Odesa, Svitolina faces constant worry about their well-being.

However, the 29-year-old athlete has found a way to channel her concerns into action. After returning to tennis following the birth of her daughter in 2023, Svitolina took the opportunity to create the Elina Svitolina Foundation. This organization aims to support the mental health of young people affected by the war in Ukraine.

Svitolina views her role as a top athlete in Ukraine as a platform to make a difference. She uses her tennis career and social media presence to raise awareness and support for those impacted by the conflict. Despite the challenges she faces, Svitolina remains committed to bringing positivity and hope to her fellow Ukrainians.

For Svitolina, Ukraine is her “happy place,” and she draws inspiration and motivation from the resilience of her people. By playing tournaments, winning matches, and spreading positivity, Svitolina hopes to make a difference in the lives of those struggling in her homeland.
