Elisabeth Moss Reflects on Working with Angelina Jolie on the Set of “Girl, Interrupted”

In a recent interview on SiriusXM’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa,” Elisabeth Moss opened up about her experience working on the set of the award-winning 1999 film “Girl, Interrupted” with Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie. The “Handmaid’s Tale” star, 41, revealed that she found Angelina, 48, “intimidating” to work with at the time.

Moss recalled the divide on set between the “Winona Ryder camp” and the “Angelina Jolie camp,” with Angelina’s camp being perceived as the “cool girls.” She admitted feeling intimidated by Angelina’s presence and never imagined being able to fit in with that group.

The tension on set mirrored the dynamic between Angelina’s character, Lisa Rowe, and Winona’s character, Susanna Kaysen, in the film. Despite the discomfort she felt at the time, Moss shared that she has since spoken to Angelina and found her to be “lovely.”

“Girl, Interrupted” follows Susanna’s journey after a nervous breakdown, where she befriends other patients in a psychiatric hospital, including Moss’s character, Polly “Torch” Clark. The film explores the complex relationships and dynamics among the characters.

In addition to reflecting on her past work, Moss is currently busy promoting her new Hulu show, “The Veil,” and preparing for the arrival of her first child. She described her role in the spy genre as a challenging opportunity to portray multiple characters within one project, showcasing her versatility as an actress.
