Elkins High School Boys Track Team Places Sixth in Big 10 Conference Championships

The Elkins High School boys track team put on an impressive performance at the Big 10 Conference Track & Field Championships held at Robert C. Byrd High School. The Tigers secured a sixth-place finish with a total of 52 points.

One of the standout moments for Elkins was the 4×800-meter relay team consisting of Ben Tenney, Josh Bodkins, Gavin Brown, and Trevor George, who clinched first place with a time of 8:35.82, earning all-conference honors. George also excelled individually, finishing second in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 4:41.70.

Other notable performances for Elkins included Tenney placing third in the 800-meter race, Bodkins finishing third in the 1,600-meter race, and Caleb Ray securing third place in the 100-meter dash. The team also placed in the 4×200 and 4×400 relays.

Coach Shane Richardson expressed his optimism for the upcoming regionals, stating, “We are looking forward to having a great day at regionals and qualifying as many kids for states as possible.”

Overall, Bridgeport claimed the boys’ title with 119.50 points, followed by Buckhannon-Upshur and Philip Barbour. The competition was fierce, with impressive performances from various schools, showcasing the talent and dedication of the young athletes.
