Ellen DeGeneres reportedly forced to leave Hollywood

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Ellen DeGeneres has made a triumphant return to the spotlight with her new comedy show, addressing the scandal that led to the demise of her career in 2020. The former host of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, who faced allegations of leading a toxic workplace, joked about being “kicked out of show business” for being “mean” during her performance at the Largo in Los Angeles.

DeGeneres, 66, reflected on the backlash she faced, stating, “There’s no mean people in show business. The ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind.” She humorously mentioned that if she had ended her show by saying, ‘Go f**k yourself,’ people would have been pleasantly surprised. The Finding Dory voice actor also recalled being ousted from TV when she came out as gay in the late ’90s, joking that she might face a third expulsion for being “mean, old, and gay.”

The comedian opened up about the toll the controversy took on her ego and self-esteem, admitting that the experience was hurtful and difficult to process. Warner Bros. ultimately cancelled her talk show in 2022 following the scandal, leaving DeGeneres disappointed with the way her career ended.

Despite the challenges she faced, DeGeneres expressed gratitude for the support of her wife, Portia de Rossi, and shared her determination to move forward. “It’s hard to dance when you’re crying,” she told an audience member, “But I am dancing now.” With her return to the stage, DeGeneres is ready to embrace a new chapter and leave the past behind.
