Elon Musk dismisses Tesla’s entire supercharger team

In a shocking turn of events, Elon Musk has made drastic changes at Tesla by shutting down the division that oversees the Supercharger business. This move comes as the electric-car maker faces a sharp downturn in the EV market and continues its restructuring efforts.

Musk announced internally that the heads of the superchargers group, Rebecca Tinucci, and Daniel Ho, along with their entire teams, would be leaving the company. Approximately 500 employees were part of the supercharger group, raising questions about the future of Tesla’s charging business.

The decision to disband the entire public policy unit, following the departure of its leader Rohan Patel, further emphasizes the company’s focus on cost reduction and efficiency. Musk’s memo, first reported by The Information, stated that any manager retaining more than three underperforming employees should resign.

These latest dismissals come after Musk’s announcement last month that Tesla would cut over 10% of its workforce to streamline operations. The company reported a nearly 10% decline in revenues in the first quarter of this year, marking its first year-on-year quarterly drop since 2020.

The unexpected move has left employees like Will Jameson and George Bahadue, who worked in the supercharger team, uncertain about the future of the charging network. Musk assured that ongoing supercharger sites would be completed, but the fate of new locations remains unclear.

Despite Tesla’s dominant position in the EV charging network, with 50,000 sites globally, the recent changes raise concerns about the company’s direction. With key executives like Tinucci, Ho, and Patel departing, along with other long-standing Musk lieutenants, the future of Tesla’s charging business and overall strategy remains uncertain.
