Aysha Ali Ahmed Al Mahri, a mother of two, has defied all odds and shattered the glass ceiling in the healthcare industry by showcasing her exceptional leadership skills and determination. In a career spanning 27 years, Aysha has risen to become the deputy chief executive officer at Burjeel Medical City (BMC), a prestigious quaternary care hospital in Abu Dhabi.

Aysha’s journey began in 1997 when she started as a nurse at a hospital under the Ministry of Health after completing her diploma in nursing. Over the years, she specialized in critical care and pediatric health, eventually earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Sharjah and a leadership certificate from McMaster University, Canada.

Despite facing challenges, Aysha remained steadfast in her pursuit of excellence. She credits the unwavering support of her community for propelling her towards leadership positions within the nursing field. Reflecting on her career, Aysha emphasized the importance of treating every patient as family, a principle that has guided her throughout her professional journey.

After spending over a decade in various nursing roles, Aysha decided to broaden her focus beyond clinical aspects and delve into the overall operations of healthcare. She held key positions at Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), where she acquired two master’s degrees in healthcare management and health economics, making her the first female Emirati from the Middle East to receive the HIMSS Change Maker Leadership Agent Award in 2020.

In 2023, Aysha made a pivotal decision to transition to the private sector, joining Burjeel Holdings. Her exceptional performance as the group Chief Nursing Officer led to her appointment as the deputy CEO of Burjeel Medical City (BMC). Aysha encourages aspiring healthcare professionals to continuously enhance their skills and seize growth opportunities, emphasizing the limitless potential within the nursing profession.

Despite her demanding career, Aysha has managed to strike a balance between work and family life, showcasing resilience and determination in achieving her goals. Looking ahead, she envisions a future where nurses not only support the healthcare system but also drive innovations in patient care.
