End-of-year sports awards held in Richmond Hill

The Richmond Hill High School Athletics program rolled out the red carpet for their second annual ‘Catspys’ event, a glamorous evening celebrating the achievements of their student-athletes. Modeled after the prestigious ESPYs, the ‘Catspys’ allowed athletes and parents to vote for the winners of each award, highlighting the outstanding performances throughout the year.

The evening began with guest speaker Shaquille Walker, a Richmond Hill alum and former state champion, sharing words of wisdom with the attendees. The awards ceremony recognized a plethora of talented athletes, including standout senior Nick Bliss who took home the Sportsmanship Award for his exceptional performance on the football field.

Other notable winners included Jayla Lawrence for Comeback Player of the Year, Lee Johnson for the ‘Build the Hill’ award, and Gabe Bauman for the Wildcat Award. Head football coach Matt LeZotte was honored as Coach of the Year for leading his team to victory over powerhouse Lowndes High.

The event also recognized the community service efforts of the Cross Country and Track and Field programs, as well as the academic achievements of the girls’ tennis team. Individual athletes such as Memphis Rich, Carson Reeves, Caden Whitaker, MaKiyah Matthews, and Mmekom Inyang were also celebrated for their outstanding performances in their respective sports.

Overall, the ‘Catspys’ was a night to remember, showcasing the talent and dedication of the student-athletes at Richmond Hill High School.
