Milani and Cole, long-time friends with a background in health and fitness, joined forces to explore the impact of gamified learning experiences on children’s minds and bodies. The results of their collaboration have been promising, with over 70% of learners showing increased or maintained focused attention and episodic memory.

Using SPARKD technology and equipment, Nexus’s Year 1 learners participated in 30-minute sessions twice a week over a 12-week period. The SmartFit Mini, a specially programmed machine connected to a tablet, collected data on each learner’s activities to monitor progress and development.

The collaboration between Nexus and SPARKD not only benefits the students but also extends to the school’s mathematics curriculum. Data from the brain fitness study was shared with Year 9 and Year 10 mathematics students, leading to improvements in units and objectives for IB and IGCSE learners.

Furthermore, the brain fitness program at Nexus aligns with the CAS (Creativity, Activity, and Service) element of the IB Diploma Programme, allowing students to connect with the community and make a positive impact.

Cole emphasizes the importance of SPARKD’s support in making this initiative possible and highlights ongoing collaborations with local universities to ensure that research continues to benefit education globally.
