Google has launched a groundbreaking new tool aimed at helping users worldwide improve their English fluency through AI-driven conversation practice. This innovative addition allows users to engage in spoken English practice with an artificial intelligence system, providing a unique and interactive learning experience.
The conversation practice system utilizes advanced AI language models to immerse students in authentic discussion situations. Users can type or speak their answers, and the AI system responds by driving the conversation, asking follow-up questions, and providing feedback to enhance learning.
Currently available in six countries including Argentina, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and Venezuela, this tool is part of Google’s Search Labs program for testing experimental search capabilities. It is accessible to Search Labs users and those translating into or out of English on Android devices in these countries.
This new tool builds upon Google’s existing “speaking practice” capabilities introduced last year, offering a more interactive and engaging learning experience. By enabling true two-way communication, users can practice using vocabulary in context and improve their fluency through skill-level-appropriate AI-guided discussions.
While Google has not disclosed long-term ambitions for the conversation practice tool, its limited release across multiple countries underscores the tech giant’s commitment to exploring the potential of AI-assisted language learning. This tool may provide a convenient and affordable way for English language learners worldwide to enhance their fluency and communication skills.
