Enhanced Security with Zoom’s New Post-Quantum End-to-End Encryption

Zoom Video Communications, Inc. has taken a significant step towards enhancing data security by announcing the global availability of post-quantum end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for Zoom Workplace, starting with Zoom Meetings. This groundbreaking move makes Zoom the first UCaaS provider to offer such advanced security features, setting a new standard in the industry.

In a world where cyber threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated, the need for robust data protection has never been more critical. With adversaries potentially capturing encrypted data now to decrypt it later with the advancement of quantum computing, the risk of data breaches is higher than ever. Michael Adams, Zoom’s Chief Information Security Officer, highlighted the importance of this new feature, emphasizing the company’s commitment to providing a secure platform for its users. The post-quantum E2EE feature utilizes the Kyber 768 algorithm, which is being standardized by NIST as the ML-KEM in FIPS 203, to protect against potential “harvest now, decrypt later” attacks.

Post-quantum E2EE is now available for Zoom Meetings and will soon be rolled out to Zoom Phone and Zoom Rooms, further solidifying Zoom’s position as a leader in data security within the UCaaS industry.
