Emirates Airlines has been a key player in shaping the travel and tourism sector in southern Africa for the past three decades. In a recent interview, Afzal Parambil, Emirates’ southern Africa regional manager, shared insights into the airline’s impact on the region’s connectivity, economy, and talent development.

Since its inception in South Africa in 1995, Emirates has expanded its flight operations, introduced innovative services, and formed strategic partnerships to enhance the travel experience in the region. Parambil highlighted key milestones, such as the introduction of daily flights to Cape Town and Durban, showcasing the airline’s commitment to regional connectivity.

Emirates has significantly influenced South Africa’s travel landscape through partnerships with organizations like South African Tourism, Satsa, and Asata. These collaborations have led to joint promotional activities, familiarization trips, and training programs to support the local tourism sector.

The airline’s first-class suites have set a new standard for luxury travel in the region, offering passengers unparalleled comfort and personalized service. Emirates’ partnerships with South African Airlines, Airlink, Cemair, and Safair have enhanced connectivity, providing seamless travel options to various destinations across Africa.

Emirates is also dedicated to talent development in South Africa, employing over 1,120 South Africans across its business units. The airline prioritizes career opportunities for local talent, offering development prospects and world-class expertise to its employees.

Looking ahead, Emirates remains focused on driving growth and innovation in the aviation sector while promoting South Africa as a premier tourist destination globally. With plans to introduce Airbus A350 aircraft and Premium Economy class, Emirates aims to enhance the travel experience for passengers and contribute to the continued development of South Africa’s tourism industry.
