Ensuring Data Security for Safe AI Implementation

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The 2024 Zhongguancun Forum in Beijing has brought together experts and industry leaders to discuss the rapid development and application of generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology. With AI becoming increasingly prevalent in various industries, the focus has shifted towards ensuring the safe and responsible use of this technology, particularly in the realm of data security governance.

Guo Yike, a data scientist and provost of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, emphasized the importance of safeguarding data and protecting personal privacy in the digital age. He called for international cooperation and exchanges to establish best practices for data security governance, including the implementation of innovative technologies like blockchain and encryption.

Several countries, including China, have taken a cautious approach to regulating AI to balance innovation with data security governance. In August, Chinese authorities issued a 24-point guideline for managing generative AI services, encouraging innovation while supervising the technology to ensure positive and high-quality content production.

As data becomes a key engine for the digital economy, experts like Shen Changxiang and Qi Xiangdong underscore the need for a safe and credible data supervision and security system. Qi, chairman of cybersecurity company Qi-Anxin Technology Group, highlighted the role of AI in enhancing cybersecurity response capabilities and addressing new data security challenges.

China aims to expand its data security market to over 150 billion yuan ($20.7 billion) by 2025, with a focus on establishing basic systems for data governance and utilization. The country’s efforts reflect a growing recognition of the importance of data security in the era of AI-driven innovation.
