Epic Games Store and Fortnite set to launch on iOS in UK in 2025 under new competition regulations

Reading Time: < 1 minute

In a groundbreaking move, Epic Games announced that it will be opening the Epic Games Store and Fortnite on Apple’s iOS in the United Kingdom in the second half of 2025, thanks to a new competition law. This development comes after a long-standing legal battle between Epic Games and Apple over alleged antitrust violations.

The news was shared on Twitter by Fortnite, with a tweet expressing gratitude to the UK for passing the new competition law. The tweet also confirmed that both the Epic Games Store and Fortnite will be available on iOS in the UK by 2025.

Since the initial lawsuit in 2020, Epic Games has faced challenges in bringing Fortnite to iOS due to Apple’s restrictions. However, a recent ruling in the US courts deemed it illegal for Apple to prevent developers from promoting alternative web stores to users on iOS.

In addition to the UK, Epic Games has also been fighting similar battles in other regions, including the European Union. The company recently won an antitrust case against Google and is awaiting the appeals process. The European Union’s Digital Markets Act aims to hold “gatekeeper” platforms accountable for fairness rules regarding third-party web stores.

The UK’s own competition law has paved the way for Epic Games to bring its popular titles to iOS in the region. This move is expected to delight gamers and fans of Fortnite who have been eagerly awaiting its return to Apple devices. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in the gaming world.
