The Escanaba High School tennis team kicked off their season with a match against Negaunee on Monday. Despite facing tough competition, the Eskymos managed to secure wins in two out of the eight matches played.

One standout player was Esky junior Connor Howes, who made the transition from playing number four doubles last season to the challenging No. 1 singles position. Howes faced off against Negaunee’s Gavin Saunders, ultimately falling in two sets but showing resilience and determination throughout the match.

Another highlight was the performance of senior David Romps and junior Alex Morgan in the No. 2 doubles match. The duo displayed great teamwork and skill, winning in two dramatic sets and securing a crucial victory for the team.

Overall, the Eskymos showed promise despite their young roster and adjustments to new roles and partners in doubles play. Coach Tom Penagor commended the team for their hard work and competitive spirit, emphasizing the importance of continuing to improve and grow as the season progresses.

While not every match went their way, the Eskymos are focused on learning from their experiences and building upon their strengths. With a positive attitude and a commitment to hard work, the team is poised to have a successful season ahead.
