Sixteen-year-old Freia from Halstead, Essex, has made headlines by winning the 16-year-old girls’ world championship at the UCI BMX World Championships in Rock Hill, South Carolina. This victory marks her fourth championship win, solidifying her status as a rising star in the BMX world.

Competing against nearly 3,000 riders from over 40 countries, Freia’s exceptional skills and determination set her apart from the competition. Her coach, Julian Allen, praised her performance, stating that she was “all business from the moment she arrived” and that her lap times were comparable to the Junior Elites.

In addition to Freia’s success, the Braintree BMX Club had a strong showing at the event, with 11 riders participating and three making it to the finals. Eleven-year-old Poppy Bishop finished in sixth place, while nine-year-old Holly Bishop claimed the title of world number seven, making her the youngest member of the club to reach the final.

Despite facing challenging weather conditions, including torrential rain, heat, and an electrical storm, the riders persevered and showcased their skills on the world stage. Mr. Allen commended the girls for their resilience, calling them “true warriors” for their performance under difficult circumstances.

Looking ahead, Freia will progress to the Junior Elite category in 2025, where she will continue to pursue her passion for BMX racing. With her talent and determination, she is poised to achieve even greater success in the future.
