Etihad’s Airbus A380, including the exclusive Residence, returns to the US officially

Etihad Airways’ superjumbo, the most exclusive cabin in commercial aviation, has made a triumphant return to the U.S. with the resumption of Airbus A380 service to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Etihad Flight 1 touched down at JFK at 9:59 a.m., signaling a significant milestone for the airline as it emerges from the challenges of the pandemic.

Passenger Gino Bertuccio, a frequent flyer of the Residence, splurged over $10,000 to experience the luxurious cabin once again on the (re)inaugural flight. Bertuccio, who has flown the Residence six times and the A380 a total of 116 times, was welcomed by a media entourage upon arrival at Etihad’s newly reopened JFK lounge.

Etihad CEO Antonoaldo Neves and Dr. Nadia Bastaki, the carrier’s chief human resources, organizational development, and asset management officer, were also on board the flight from Abu Dhabi.

The return of the A380 to New York signifies a major moment for Etihad, with four A380s currently in operation and three more set to return to service. The airline plans to operate daily flights to New York and double daily flights to London.

The A380 offers an unparalleled passenger experience, with the exclusive Residence cabin providing a private suite, bedroom, and shower for up to two passengers. While the soft product offerings have been scaled back, the physical suite remains a symbol of luxury in the skies.

For those not flying in the Residence, the A380 also features first-class Apartments, business-class Studios, and an onboard bar for passengers to enjoy during the journey. The return of the A380 to the U.S. marks a significant milestone for Etihad and sets a new standard for luxury travel in commercial aviation.
