The European Union has initiated an investigation into China’s procurement of medical devices as part of its efforts to protect local manufacturers. The probe, launched by the European Commission, aims to prevent unfair competition and market distortion.
In addition to the medical devices investigation, the EU has also launched probes into whether Chinese clean tech producers are dumping subsidized goods on its market and whether Chinese-owned companies are unfairly benefiting from subsidies while operating within the EU.
The investigation into Chinese public procurement of medical devices is the first under the EU International Procurement Instrument, which aims to prevent countries from favoring domestic suppliers unfairly. If European suppliers are found to not have fair access to the Chinese market, restrictions could be placed on Chinese medical device companies bidding in EU public tenders.
The European Commission’s actions highlight its commitment to ensuring a level playing field for all companies operating within the EU market. By investigating potential unfair practices, the EU aims to protect the interests of its local manufacturers and maintain a fair and competitive business environment. Stay tuned for updates on the outcomes of these investigations.
