Euclid’s Future: Park Projects and Business Grants on the Horizon

Euclid City Council’s Business Development and City Planning and Housing Committee recently met to discuss the progress of various projects in the city. One of the key projects under review is the Top of the Tank project, which aims to create a 2-acre park with retail spaces, walking paths, and food trucks on top of Euclid’s underground water tank.

Planning and Development Coordinator Christine McIntosh provided an update on the project, acknowledging the concerns of residents about the lack of visible progress. She assured the committee that funding was being secured and that phase two of the project would commence later in the year.

Director of Planning and Development Patrick Grogan-Myers shared insights from a recent survey of businesses in the city, revealing that 22% of street-visible commercial spaces were vacant. This statistic aligns with national trends, prompting the city to consider increasing funding for its Storefront Renovation Program to incentivize businesses to invest in renovations.

The committee also discussed the challenges facing Euclid Avenue, noting that while it has the second-lowest vacancy rate in the city, there is a negative perception that needs to be addressed. Grogan-Myers emphasized the importance of working with property owners and improving the business-tenant mix to enhance the avenue’s appeal.

Overall, the committee’s meeting highlighted the ongoing efforts to revitalize Euclid’s business district and address the concerns of residents. With plans for expansion and renovation in the works, the city is taking proactive steps to promote economic growth and improve the overall business environment.
