Exclusive: Trudeau government’s silence on presence of Punjab gangsters in Canada raises questions | World News

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The arrest of three gangsters in Canada has shed light on the presence of Punjab gangsters living in the country, raising questions about why the Trudeau government has remained silent on the issue. Kamalpreet Singh, Karanpreet Singh, and Karan Brar were arrested by Canadian Police for their alleged involvement in the killing of Bhindranwale Tiger Force (BTF) terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Despite lacking proper documentation and not being enrolled in any educational institution, the trio was living in Canada on temporary visas.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has stated that they will seek assistance from their Indian counterparts to investigate the Indian connection of the arrested gangsters. However, the RCMP has been uncooperative in extraditing seven known gangsters from Punjab who are currently residing in Canada. These gangsters are involved in contract killings and extortion in Punjab and Haryana, yet the Trudeau government has failed to cooperate with Indian authorities in extraditing them.

The list of seven Indian origin Punjab gangsters has been shared with Canadian Intelligence and the RCMP for years, but the Trudeau government has refused to extradite them. Instead, the government has blamed the Modi administration for the killing of terrorist Nijjar in June 2023. The gangsters have been able to take shelter in Canada by seeking political asylum, alleging human rights violations by the Indian government.

The presence of these gangsters in Canada has led to extortion and harassment of prominent individuals in Punjab and Haryana. Despite efforts by Indian authorities to extradite them, the Trudeau government’s inaction on the issue has raised concerns about its stance on criminal activities within the country.
