Tryon Health and Fitness Club, located in Tryon, is not your average gym. Owned by the inspirational Tina Durbin for the past 24 years, this 14,000-square-foot blue metal building stands out in the community. Tina’s journey to success is nothing short of remarkable, starting with a $200 investment and a big dream.
In 1998, Tina faced a pivotal moment when she was offered half ownership of the struggling gym. Instead of settling, she negotiated for full ownership and took on a sizable mortgage, propelling her into a new chapter of her life. Her husband, initially uninvolved, was shocked when he saw the building’s transformation from drab gray to “agreeable blue.”
Despite facing challenges like the 2008 economic downturn and the recent covid pandemic, Tina’s determination never wavered. The gym flourished under her leadership, growing from 88 to over 500 members within the first six months. Today, Tryon Health offers a variety of fitness programs, including yoga, dance, body sculpting, weight training, and personal training.
Tina’s dedication to helping her clients achieve their fitness goals is evident in her work. She is not just a gym owner but a role model for many in the community. When asked about slowing down, Tina’s response is clear – fitness is a gift to herself, and she is not ready to give it up anytime soon.
Whether you love or question the blue exterior of Tryon Health and Fitness Club, one thing is certain – Tina Durbin’s vibrant approach to fitness is here to stay. Her story is a testament to the power of perseverance and passion in achieving success.
