Experts believe that promoting responsible AI is key to achieving global peace.

In a world plagued by conflict and violence, experts are now suggesting that Artificial Intelligence (AI) could be the key to promoting global peace and safeguarding human rights. Political scientist Branka Panic and Dr. Paige Arthur from New York University have recently published a book titled AI for Peace, in which they argue that AI-driven technology has the potential to be a force for good in conflict-ridden countries.

While AI has often been associated with negative outcomes such as drone warfare and misinformation, Panic and Dr. Arthur believe that it can also be used to ‘wage peace’. They emphasize the importance of combining technological innovation with the expertise of human peacebuilders to address the complex challenges of conflict and peace.

The authors highlight concrete examples of how AI tools are currently being used to support peace efforts in regions like Ukraine, Gaza, and Rwanda. However, they caution that the use of AI in peacebuilding must be governed by strict ethical and legal principles to prevent misuse and bias.

“By harnessing the capabilities of ethical AI, we can work towards a future where technology and humanity come together to create lasting peace,” the authors stated. As the world continues to grapple with ongoing conflicts, the potential of AI to promote peace offers a glimmer of hope for a more peaceful and harmonious future.
