Explanation of CSISD’s Strategies for Gifted and Talented Programs, Intervention, and Enrichment

College Station school administrators unveiled their instructional plan for the 2024-25 school year at a recent school board meeting, sparking concerns from parents about proposed changes. The district’s Gifted & Talented (GT) enrichment program will continue in a pull-out model, with students receiving instruction based on TEA requirements. However, the district will reduce its GT enrichment specialist staff from 13 to 10 due to budget challenges.

In addition to changes in the GT program, the district will also be restructuring its interventionist role for the upcoming school year. Current interventionists will have the opportunity to transition into roles such as instructional coaches or classroom teachers. The goal is to provide more effective and data-driven support for students.

Furthermore, the district plans to have two instructional coaches on each kindergarten through eighth-grade campus, focusing on math, science, reading, language arts, and social studies. Department chairs will also be present at the high school level to support teachers and students.

Despite these changes, district officials reassured parents that special education services and staff will not be affected. The district aims to provide high-quality instruction to all students within the classroom, minimizing the need for students to be pulled out for intervention or enrichment.

During the meeting, several parents expressed concerns about the impact of the changes, particularly regarding push-in intervention models. School board president Jeff Horak acknowledged these concerns and emphasized the district’s commitment to ensuring all students receive the necessary support and education. The board encouraged parents to engage with district officials to address any questions or issues they may have.
