Exploring Chicago’s Diverse Neighborhoods: A New Travel Show Highlights Little Village and Humboldt Park to Promote Tourism

Choose Chicago is reimagining tourism in the Windy City with their new travel show, “The 77: City of Neighborhoods.” This series aims to showcase the vibrant and diverse communities beyond downtown Chicago, highlighting five distinct neighborhoods: Humboldt Park, Little Village, Uptown, Bronzeville, and Pullman/Roseland.

Hosted by Rob Fojtik, the show delves into the rich history and culture of each neighborhood, featuring local culinary staples like the jibarito in Humboldt Park and a vegan messab in Uptown. However, food is just one aspect of the series, which focuses on community-led efforts to promote tourism and investment in these areas.

The goal is to shift the narrative of neighborhoods that have been overlooked or stereotyped, emphasizing the unique stories and experiences that make each community special. Through interviews with local residents, business owners, and cultural leaders, the show explores both the hidden gems and the challenges facing these neighborhoods, such as disinvestment and gentrification.

Jennifer Aguilar, a resident of Little Village and executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, stresses the importance of storytelling in shaping perceptions of her community. She hopes that increased tourism will support local businesses and preserve the cultural essence of Little Village, while also addressing concerns about displacement.
