Monticello’s historic “red house” at 315 W. Washington St. has been given a new lease on life by Todd and Rhonda Thornton, who purchased the property in 2022. The couple has been hard at work restoring and renovating the house for various uses, including short-term rentals, which are now available for booking.
With five bookings already secured, the red house offers three bedrooms, 1.5 baths, a full kitchen, and multiple living spaces. The Thorntons have also planned to create a retail space on the first level and convert the basement into a cocktail lounge with gaming options.
Funded in part by a grant from the city of Monticello, the ongoing renovations have been a collaborative effort with the community. Todd Thornton expressed gratitude for the support received from the city and Monticello Main Street, emphasizing their willingness to help.
Meanwhile, over in Georgetown, Big Thorn Farm & Brewery has reopened its popular “Tree Bar” for the season. Co-owner Anna Schweig described the deck as a unique space built from trees on their property, offering a peaceful and relaxing outdoor drinking experience.
As the Tree Bar welcomes visitors, Something You Salon in Champaign has closed its doors, while the Everything You Spa is seeking a new location. Additionally, the Danville Farmers Market has relocated to the DIY Storage Center parking lot, offering a variety of vendors and programs for the community to enjoy.
