The excitement is building as the 11th edition of the Wings for Life World Run approaches, with runners and wheelchair users from around the world gearing up for the largest and most inclusive running event on the planet. Set to take place on May 5, 2024, the event is expected to draw participants from all walks of life, coming together for a common cause.
In partnership with Dubai Sports Council, Expo City Dubai, Adidas, Emirates Hospitals, and Fitze, the UAE leg of the race will be held at Expo City Dubai. Amna Abulhoul, Executive Creative Director – Events & Experiences at Expo City Dubai, expressed her excitement about hosting the World Run, highlighting the community’s shared commitment to finding a cure for spinal cord injury.
One of the unique features of the Wings for Life World Run is that all participants start at the same moment, 3:00 pm GST, whether they run, roll, jog, or walk. This year, participants will once again face the challenge of the virtual Catcher Car, which gives them a 30-minute head start before attempting to catch up with them, creating a thrilling and unique race experience.
Local participants in Dubai are eagerly anticipating the event, with Red Bull athlete Yahya Alghassani stating that participating in the World Run is a powerful statement of resilience and unity, contributing to spinal cord research.
Dubai Sports Council has expressed its commitment to the event, emphasizing the importance of promoting inclusive sports and supporting significant causes. Last year’s edition at Expo City Dubai received strong support from the local community and Dubai Sports Council, setting the stage for an even more impactful 2024 edition.
The Wings for Life World Run has had a significant impact since its inception in 2014, raising over 43.8 million euros for spinal cord research. With over 1.2 million registered participants covering nearly 12 million kilometers across 195 countries, the event has become a global movement with a singular mission – to find a cure for spinal cord injury.
The event has seen record-breaking participation numbers, with 206,728 participants from 192 nationalities in 158 countries taking part in the 10th edition. The goal for 2024 is to surpass that benchmark and continue raising awareness and funds for spinal cord research.
Every step or roll taken during the Wings for Life World Run contributes to this important cause, with 100% of entry fees going directly to the Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation. To join the global movement and participate in the Dubai leg at Expo City, interested individuals can register on the official website.
The Wings for Life World Run is not just a race; it is a symbol of unity and hope for those affected by spinal cord injury.
