Express-News All-Area Tennis teams for 2024

Brayden Effler, a student athlete at Alamo Heights High School, made headlines as he competed in the quarterfinal stages of the UIL State Tennis Tournament and Team Tennis Tournament at Annemarie Tennis Center on May 16, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. Effler, a St. Michael’s college signee, had an impressive 2023-24 season with a record of 24-8 in singles and 13-3 in doubles. He was one of two Class 5A boys from the San Antonio area to advance to the state tournament but unfortunately was eliminated in the quarterfinals. Effler’s outstanding performance earned him a spot on the All-Region team after winning the Region IV-5A boys single championship.

In addition to Effler, other standout players were recognized for their achievements in high school tennis. Jude Bruce, a Concordia University signee, won six tournaments and remained undefeated in district play during the season. Mya Bowe from Madison High School won five different tennis events during the 2023-24 season and finished fourth in the Class 6A regional tournament.

The Express-News Alamo City High School Sports Awards will reveal the Boys and Girls Tennis Player of the Year Award winners soon. Effler, Bruce, and Bowe are among the finalists who have showcased exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.
