Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the IPL eliminator clash against Rajasthan Royals, missing out on a spot in the finals. RCB skipper Faf Du Plessis opened up about the reasons behind the team’s loss in a post-match interview.
Du Plessis highlighted the challenges of batting first on a tricky pitch, mentioning that losing early wickets made it difficult to set a competitive total. Despite aiming for a score of 190, RCB fell short due to the slow pitch conditions at the Narendra Modi stadium.
The skipper acknowledged that the presence of dew during the second innings and the impact player rule played a significant role in determining the outcome of the match. He emphasized the need for a higher score to challenge the opposition, considering the changing dynamics of the game with the introduction of impact players.
In the match, RCB managed to post a total of 172/8, with contributions from Mahipal Lomror and Swapnil Singh. However, Rajasthan Royals staged a remarkable comeback, led by Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmeyer, to secure a victory and advance to the qualifier 2.
Despite the disappointment of missing out on the finals, Du Plessis praised his team for their fighting spirit and resilience throughout the tournament. The RCB skipper’s insights shed light on the evolving strategies and challenges faced by teams in the IPL, highlighting the importance of adapting to changing conditions and rules in the game.
