The Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) has announced an extension of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) deadline for the Tennessee Promise scholarship program, giving high school seniors and their families until Friday, May 31, 2024, to complete their applications.
The Tennessee Promise scholarship program offers eligible high school seniors the opportunity to pursue a technical certificate or associate degree tuition-free, covering tuition and mandatory fees not covered by other financial aid sources.
The decision to extend the deadline comes in response to ongoing challenges faced by students and families navigating the college application process, particularly due to the federal implementation of the new FAFSA.
Governor Bill Lee emphasized the state’s commitment to providing pathways for student success in post-high school education and training, acknowledging the unique challenges students are currently facing.
THEC, in partnership with the Ayers Foundation Trust and tnAchieves, is dedicated to supporting students through the FAFSA process and ensuring they have the resources they need to complete their applications.
Dr. Steven Gentile, THEC Executive Director, highlighted the importance of expanding access to higher education in Tennessee and removing barriers for students to pursue their college dreams.
As the Tennessee Promise program celebrates its 10-year anniversary, over 150,000 Tennessee students have been empowered to enroll in college and work towards brighter futures for themselves and their families.
Students interested in the Tennessee Promise scholarship are encouraged to complete their FAFSA by the May 31 deadline and can seek assistance from their college advisor, THEC/TSAC FAFSA Hotline, email support, or the partnering organizations.
