Fairport Harbor Mayor Discusses Strategies to Strengthen Village’s Business Community

Fairport Harbor Mayor Timothy Manross is on a mission to boost the village’s business tax revenue by attracting new businesses to the area. The former research and development center for DeNora Tech, located at 625 East St., is a prime location that Manross hopes will soon be occupied by a new business.

Manross acknowledges the challenge of attracting larger businesses that can significantly increase tax revenue for the village. He emphasized the need for businesses with a greater number of employees, rather than mom-and-pop shops, to make a substantial impact on the village’s finances.

In addition to the potential business opportunities at the old DeNora Tech site, Manross highlighted the development of Fairport Harbor’s waterfront as a key factor in boosting commercial tax revenue. The upcoming demolition of the former Water Treatment Plant at 5 High St. will free up valuable land along the Lake Erie shoreline for economic development.

Furthermore, plans for a new transient marina at the northern end of Water Street aim to attract boaters from outside Lake County for short stays. The estimated $14 million project, managed by the Lake Development Authority, is expected to bring additional revenue to the village.

While the exact revenue projections for the transient marina are still being determined, Manross and the Village Council are exploring potential sources of income, including short-term rentals through services like Airbnb. The village is committed to creating a business-friendly environment that will benefit both residents and visitors alike.
