A tragic accident in Ontario has left a family from India grieving the loss of their three-month-old baby and his grandparents who were visiting from Chennai. The parents, Gokulnath Manivannan and Ashwitha Jawahar, expressed their heartbreak in a statement released by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit.
“We are at a complete loss of words to describe the agony and vacuum in our hearts knowing we can never hold our child Aditya Vivaan, who gave us so many precious memories in such a short time, in our hands again,” they said.
The fatal crash occurred after Durham Regional Police officers chased a vehicle suspected of being involved in a robbery at an alcohol store. The driver fled the scene and entered a highway going in the wrong direction, resulting in a multi-vehicle collision that claimed the lives of the infant and his grandparents.
The driver, 21-year-old international student Gagandeep Singh, was out on bail and facing charges for previous liquor store robberies. The tragedy has sparked outrage, with Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilivere criticizing the government’s catch-and-release laws for repeat offenders.
Despite the political debate, the surviving family members are left to grapple with the trauma of their loss. Gokulnath Manivannan expressed the pain of his injuries paling in comparison to the shock and loss of his parents and son, as his wife continues to suffer from surgeries and flashbacks of the traumatic event.
The devastating impact of this tragedy serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of addressing issues surrounding crime and public safety.
