Famous Las Vegas Mirage Hotel to Close its Doors After 34 Years

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The iconic Mirage Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip is set to close its doors on July 17 for a major rebranding and renovation project that will last approximately three years. The hotel, which has been a staple in Las Vegas for 34 years, will be transformed into the Hard Rock Las Vegas.

The Mirage, known for its luxury accommodations and as the former home of the Siegfried & Roy show, will undergo a massive overhaul to become a part of the Hard Rock brand. The new hotel will feature a 700-foot tower shaped like a guitar, similar to the Hard Rock’s Hollywood, Florida location.

The acquisition of The Mirage by Hard Rock International from MGM Resorts in a $1.075 billion cash deal marks the end of an era for the iconic Las Vegas landmark. Hard Rock International has announced plans to pay $80 million in severance packages to laid-off employees and expects the new hotel to create double the number of jobs that The Mirage had.

Guests with bookings at The Mirage past July 14 will have their reservations automatically canceled and refunded. The closure of The Mirage comes as a bittersweet moment for the Las Vegas community, as they bid farewell to a beloved landmark while eagerly anticipating the arrival of the new Hard Rock Las Vegas.
