Fareway to debut new location in Coal Valley

Reading Time: < 1 minute

After years of waiting, the residents of Coal Valley can finally rejoice as Fareway Stores, Inc. has announced plans to open a new grocery store in the village. The new store, set to be constructed at the southeast corner of 1st Street and Route 6, is expected to be operational by 2026.

Mayor Mike Bartels expressed his excitement over the news, calling it a “significant milestone” for the community of roughly 3,900 residents. The village has been without a grocery store since Jack & Jill closed its doors in 2008, leaving residents with limited options for fresh produce and other essentials.

Fareway’s presence in Coal Valley is not just about fulfilling the community’s need for a grocery store. The company’s CEO, Reynolds W. Cramer, highlighted the potential for economic growth through job creation, support for local businesses, and further development in the area.

The new store will offer a range of amenities, including fresh produce, a full-service butcher counter, self-service checkout, online shopping, and curbside pickup. With its headquarters in Boone, Iowa, Fareway is a family-owned business with over 130 stores across several states.

The announcement of Fareway’s expansion into Coal Valley has been met with enthusiasm and anticipation by residents who have long awaited the return of a grocery store to their community. The new store promises to not only meet their daily needs but also contribute to the overall growth and development of the village.
