Reading Time: < 1 minute

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal made headlines with his recent comments on men’s and women’s college basketball. On the latest episode of his podcast, “The Big Podcast with Shaq,” O’Neal expressed his disappointment with men’s college basketball while praising the women’s game.

In a clip from the episode featuring NFL quarterback Kirk Cousins, O’Neal admitted that he was not following this year’s March Madness for men but was actively watching women’s college basketball. He described women’s basketball as “kicking a–” and shared that he had a newfound appreciation for the sport.

O’Neal went on to name several standout players in women’s college basketball, including JuJu Watkins of USC, Caitlin Clark of Iowa, and Angel Reese of LSU. All three players have lucrative sneaker deals through name, image, and likeness (NIL) agreements with major brands like Nike and Reebok.

Interestingly, O’Neal struggled to name any current male college basketball players, highlighting his shift in focus towards the women’s game. As a former LSU basketball star himself, O’Neal’s praise for women’s college basketball carries weight in the sports world.

The retired NBA player’s comments have sparked discussions about the growing popularity and talent in women’s college basketball. With O’Neal’s endorsement and support, the women’s game is receiving well-deserved recognition and appreciation from a basketball icon.
