Doddridge County boys track coach Bobby Burnside had a night to remember at the Fenton Relays in Williamstown. His team’s 4×100 relay broke a school record that had stood since 1996, with a winning time of 3:28.98. Burnside was ecstatic, saying, “I knew we had the ability to break the school record, but those guys had it. Conditions were right.”
The Doddridge County boys team also clinched first place in the team standings with 104 points, securing the overall title. The team’s success was highlighted by first-place efforts in the 4×200 and 4×400 relays, as well as individual wins in the long jump, pole vault, and discus.
On the girls side, Doddridge County gave the Parkersburg girls a run for their money, finishing as runners-up by just two points. Despite the close competition, the girls team put on a strong performance, with wins in the shuttles, sprint medley, and 4×400 relays.
The Fenton Relays also saw impressive performances from the host school, Williamstown, which placed second overall in both the girls and boys fields. The Yellowjackets set three meet records, with standout performances in the distance medley and 4×800 relays.
Overall, the Fenton Relays showcased the talent and dedication of track and field athletes from various schools, setting the stage for an exciting postseason ahead.
