Brazil Secures Hosting Rights for 2027 Women’s World Cup

In a historic decision, Brazil has been selected as the host country for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, marking the first time the prestigious tournament will be held in South America. The announcement came after a vote by FIFA’s full membership, with Brazil’s bid winning over a joint proposal from Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany.

The FIFA Congress voted 119-78 in favor of Brazil, with the reduced field of two candidates following the withdrawal of the United States-Mexico joint bid and South Africa’s candidacy. The Brazilian bid was seen as a frontrunner, especially after FIFA had already secured deals for the men’s World Cups in 2030 and 2034, leaving South American neighbors with limited hosting opportunities.

The Brazilian bid team expressed their joy and pride at the result, hailing it as a victory for women’s soccer, their country, and the entire South American region. Brazil’s soccer federation president, Ednaldo Rodrigues, highlighted the significance of hosting the Women’s World Cup amidst recent challenges faced by the country.

The decision to award the hosting rights to Brazil was a significant milestone, as it marked the first time that all of FIFA’s member associations had a say in the selection process. The electronic ballot presented three options: Brazil, BNG, or abstain, with Brazil emerging as the clear favorite.

With the stage set for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil, soccer fans around the world can look forward to an exciting tournament that will showcase the best of women’s football on South American soil. The next World Cup host votes for 2030 and 2034 will take place on December 11, setting the stage for future editions of the prestigious tournament.
