Finance AVP chosen for prestigious NACUBO Fellows Program

Oakland University’s very own James Hargett has been selected as one of the 15 higher education business leaders for the prestigious 2024-25 NACUBO Fellows Program. Hargett, who currently serves as the associate vice president for finance and controller, was chosen for his experience and talent in the field.

The NACUBO Fellows Program is an immersive leadership development initiative designed for higher education professionals aspiring to secure a chief business officer (CBO) position in the future. Over the course of a year, participants will engage with top experts in the field to enhance their management, communications, and leadership skills, preparing them for senior leadership roles.

Stephen W. Mackey, Oakland University’s vice president for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer, expressed his excitement for Hargett’s selection, emphasizing the significance of the program in the realm of higher education accounting. He anticipates that Hargett will leverage this opportunity to broaden his knowledge and bring back valuable insights to benefit the university.

Kara D. Freeman, NACUBO president and chief executive officer, highlighted the program’s mission to cultivate the next generation of CBOs by equipping them with the essential competencies and communication skills needed for success. She welcomed Hargett and the other accomplished professionals selected for this year’s cohort.
